Liquid Hair recently held it's second Dermalogica 'Skin Savvy' event in the salon. The interactive workshop was hosted by a Dermalogica specialist from Sydney together with the Liquid Hair team, and provided the evenings' guests with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of skin health.
After arriving to champagne and fabulous food (provided by Argo on The Square), the workshoppers got down to business, asking skin care questions, and experiencing the Dermalogica products in a personalised face-mapping session.
The workshops provide a great way learn about common skins concerns and how best to treat them, and also how to make the most of the Dermalogica range of products through correct application methods.
We can't wait for the next one - keep your eye out for information on dates and times! See you there...
Since it's launch in 2009, Cloud Nine has become a favourite brand of styling tool with professional hairdressers and their clientele who want to recreate that 'just been to the salon' look in their own home. Along with an essential series of straightening irons, the brand has created volumising solutions that have revolutionised at-home styling ease and accessibility.
Charlotte, senior stylist at Liquid Hair, loves The Wand which was launched by Cloud Nine in 2012. She uses it at home herself! Here she takes us through a few of the benefits of her favourite styling tool, and gives a few professional tips onhow to use it!
"I love using the wand - it gives me loads of volume and movement, and it's so easy to use. Being able to adjust the heat means you can use a cooler setting which is better for long-lasting waves and curls," Charlotte said.
"Every time you can make the style individual by taking different sizes sections, and I really like the natural look of the waves you get from using this tool."
"I find the wand a lot easier than using irons to create curl, and so much quicker. Make sure you use a heat-protecting spray to take care of the condition of the hair. TheO Spray is also great for when you want to get that volume and shine without weighing your hair down. And remember to use the glove provided so you don't burn your fingers!"

When we use the brand name Moroccanoil the first thing that come to mind is their hero product the original Moroccanoil Treatment. Taking the world by storm this product revolutionized the hair industry and outsold many products globally. But lets not forget that this amazing product sits alongside other great products within the range. Emma Bayly, Director of Liquid Hair takes us through a few of her Moroccanoil favourites.
"I've always been a fan of naturally curly hair but many people blessed with this see it as a curse. They are always stretching it out straight or just wearing it up not being able to tame it. Then on the other hand some people love curly hair and wish they could achieve the look but don't realise with the correct cut and correct product selection they can encourage their hair to bounce right up." Emma's tips are outlined below:
Curl Defining Cream: Frizz free definition for fine medium or course hair. Great definition for wavy or curly hair while hair retains movement.
Curl Control Mousse: I like to use this product on finer hair, not only is it weightless it give support to curls that need some extra bounce.
Intense Curl Cream: A high gloss product great for extremely curly hair. Curls remain moisturised smooth and soft.
Moroccanoil range also includes some great treatment products. The Restorative Hair Mask is great for all hair types, and is rich in protein - perfect for chemically or thermally damaged locks. You can even add the Morocanoil treatment oil to the mix for extra benefits.
Ammonia-free hair colour is a major trend in hair colour technology, and over past few years all the major hair colour brands have launched, or are launching, ammonia-free permanent colour ranges. So how do ammonia-free colours work and what does it mean for the health of your hair?
In the past ammonia has been used in permanent hair colors to give better, more durable colors and allows for more significant color changes. Ammonia partially removes the natural colour from the hair. It opens up the surface of the strand so that the hair colour can get through and effectively lifts out the natural hair pigment so that the hair colour molecules can penetrate and deposit.
Essentially, ammonia has been largely responsible for hair color's ability to alter hair hue without washing out after only a few shampoos. This method of depositing colouring the hair has been commonly reported to have side effects such as stinging the eyes and scalp, and of course there's that distinctive od0ur...
The environmental and health concerns raised by an ever-increasingly educated and health-conscious clientele have pushed the hair colour technology industry to develop alternative colour delivery systems.
Ammonia-free colours most often work by using an ammonia alternative called MEA, or monoethanolamine, or an oil-based delivery system, to more gently open and penetrate the hair shaft. A new development has recently been launched by Goldwell, Nectaya which uses intra-lipid ammonia-free technology. Goldwell states that this new colour system has an advantage over other oil-based delivery systems as it doesn't weight the hair with heavy oils, and leaves the hair in exceptional condition.
Previously it has been thought that ammonia-free hair colour systems were not able to produce the same lasting and permanent results as those containing ammonia, or the same lasting grey coverage. Developments in ammonia-free technology now mean uniform and lasting colour, with perfect coverage of up to 100 percent white hair with vibrant shades and lightening ability.
Using ammonia-free colours may prevent that dry, over-processed feeling that has been a side-effect of using ammonia, and they are gentler on the hair, and with no unpleasant odor or irritation.
Next time you walk into your salon to have a hair colour ask your stylist about the benefits of ammonia-free colour, and compare the feeling and look of your hair with an ammonia-free colour delivery system.
Ok, so the days are getting longer, and our little corner of the world is slowly turning those much anticipated few degrees closer to the sun… Spring is only a few more sleeps away now, and those tantalizing warm rays of sunlight are making everyone feel more lively as the dreariness of winter starts to lift.
That can only mean one thing: new-season makeover time is here!
Of course Liquid Girl is up to date with all the directional cuts and colours for spring/summer – but exactly what are the looks that are making a statement for the upcoming seasons? Here’s the lowdown on ways to keep your style looking fresh and current…
The pixie cut is a short hairstyle with texture in the upper layers that should ideally be slightly messy, which is good news - this look does not require much fussing with products and styling! It will mean however, that you will need to come in to visit the salon a little more frequently to refresh your sexy crop, and maintain the shape of the cut.
The bob cut is back for summer style, and this season there are a couple of different variations to try. You could do a short, smooth bob cut with an eyebrow skimming fringe and bare neck – the clean lines of this cut really make an impact. Or try a longer, slightly messy style with volume and movement. This more intermediate length looks fresh, and is perfect for the eclectic, bohemian summer dresses and accessories.
It seems like the fringe never leaves the hair fashion radar! It’s back again this summer. Try one that is cut long and to the side, or go for a statement full fringe that falls right on the eyebrow. A great way to add a touch of femininity and fun to your cut – a fringe suits just about every length of hair.
The Long Hairstyle
Long Hair always looks great – and this summer it’s the longer the better! The main advantage to a long style is that you can change the look each time if you want. Add some layers to give natural volume. Loose braids, pony tails and effortless-looking, tousled up-styles are perfect for keeping those long locks under control in the summer months, and are being seen in just about every editorial shoot in the latest fashion journals all over the world. Think bohemian and slightly disheveled. The middle part is still a hot look - just remember to be little wild with your long hair: voluminous and messy – the smoothed down styles of the past couple of years has been all ruffled up!
Set your style dial to bright if you dare when you talk to your stylist about a new shade for your ‘do… Think Rihanna red, or Lady Gaga blonde if you want make a hair statement that pops. Or maybe try some warm, natural tones with honey-coloured highlights to compliment your haute hippie summer styling… And last but not least, don’t forget to accessorise your summer hairstyle with some ribbons or tapes, or even flowers.
Don't be fooled by the stereotype of a man who doesn't care about the way he looks. Modern men are just as (or at least almost) as concerned with their appearance as women. Healthy skin is a fundamental part of looking great.
For men, skin care is a mere afterthought. Beyond the world of shaving their faces, it is rare for a man to devote time to his skin. Yeah right! These days, skin care is no longer just a women's concern. We are in the 21st century and the pressure is on for a man to take care of himself. Men are increasingly aware and concerned about the health of their skin. More men than ever are interested in taking care of their appearance and ensuring that they maintain their youthful looks for as long as possible. Man's increasing desire for a groomed look is an 8 billion dollar industry. So why are men beginning to catch up with women's interest in hair and beauty products?
Most importantly, everyone wants to retain youthful skin for as long as possible. Along with drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy diet, moisturizing and nurturing the skin is the best way to grow old gracefully. For a long time men were only comfortable in barber stores and over the past 20 years they have started venturing into what was once only a womans domain.
The hair and beauty industry have now woken up and are now catering for their interests by putting a masculine edge to their salon appointments and product ranges. This makes it easier for a man to ask questions without sounding sissy.
Industry professionals have now understood the importance of guiding this generation through change. Think about it in simple terms, little girls hand around their mothers watching their beauty regime and are quick to follow with hair styling and make up application, whilst little boys are too busy in the backyard playing to be interested in whats going on in dad's bathroom and lets face it, up until the past few years there hasn't been much going on.
So boys the message is clear, don't be afraid to ask questions there are plenty of grooming solutions out there for you-Just ask!
Pony tails are making a come-back in 2011 (did they every go away?), Liquid Girl is loving the versatility of this favourite style. Loose, up high, barely there... So many ways to play. Pony tales are a classic, and easy way to up date your look... or save you from a bad hair day! Love the 70s vibe of this feather accessory!
The ponytail was the backstage hairstyle of choice at many 2011 shows. Celebrity stylist Guido Palau can be credited with many if its newfangled iterations, including the "dominatrix," which he showed at Marc Jacobs, left, and in Paris at Emanuel Ungaro and Louis Vuitton... So hot!
Long, wavy styles have been the look of choice the red carpet runway for what seems like forever, but lately, ponytails have been popping up on stars like Jennifer Lopez and Blake Lively. True Grit upstart Hailee Steinfeld made a big impression at the Golden Globes this January when she sported this high, super-sleek pony look.
Middle parts and supremely loose, low-slung ponies with more hair hanging out of the elastic than in it: sexy, relaxed street style.
Somewhere in between girl and woman: Mattel's first Barbie doll, came styled with what was to become her iconic look: a bouncy blonde ponytail and fringe.
Don't know about you, but Liquid Girl will be wearing a high, sexy and sleek pony tail out this weekend!
Kevin Murphy recently sent us these images of his latest photoshoot with uber-boy-model Andrej Pejic. Australian Andrej, who grew up in Melbourne, has recently been the face of Marc Jacobs and was the star of Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring ads: an international star on the sky rocket... Even though Andrej is super feminine Kevin wanted to show him in a more masculine way, "... a little like the Glam Rock singers of the late seventies and early eighties."
Wow: taking boy beauty to the next level! Controversially, Andrej was ranked no.98 in FHM magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011,an 'award' that caused controversy with a homophobic subtext that was removed from FHM's website...
